Is Avon worldwide a scam or is it profitable if you work hard?

Is the company Avon worldwide and its little business thing a scam or do people really make a lot of money in it? I'm confused as to weather or not i should partake in its organization. In order to make money in it, i'm going to have to "invest" in it's books and cd's, bring more people into the organization, buy and sell there products. Also, there is the processing fee of 168 dollars not to mention the 6 dollar meeting fee for each meeting. Help me please.
