Why could Spaniards never build an Empire like The Roman Empire, Byzantine Empire and Persian Empire ?
I think you answered that yourself there: 'weaker opponents who were technoloigcally behind Spain.' Why bother attacking the French when South America is easier to conquer and financially worth significantly more?
