I can't even get a job interview even though my resume shows what a good worker I am? Thoughts?

I've been free lancing as a realtor and office istant for about 5 years now. Previous to that, my ex husband and I owned a thriving contracting business and I had good jobs moving up the company ladder in aerospace. Real estate in Michigan can't support my family any longer and self employment is too unsteady....As my mother would put it "You need a REAL job". I have applied for anything and everything and can't even get an interview. Between real estate and our business, I haven't been in the job market for about a total of 9 years. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.....suggestions?
