Is there a superstition that says to spit on a dead bird?

My ex girlfriend does this thing where she will walk up and spit on a dead bird. We live in New Orleans. She said something something about it being some voodoo superstitious thing. It sickens me and makes me think that there is something seriously wrong with her. Does this superstition exist or is she as sick and crazy as I think she is?
