Would like some advice about men and datiing?

When you are in a new relationship and you want to know what the man is thinking, what do you do, sit back and wait to see what happens? If he brings up that when it gets warm we will do this or that, I know he is thinking about futuristic, but seems distant...How do I figure he out?
