Can a life insurance beneficiary be changed even after the policy holder is dead?

My dad died a couple weeks ago and the first beneficiary is under my moms name. Now, my mom cannot speak english and cannot plan the funeral or anything. She is willing to transfer all the money to my aunt. I was wondering, if it is possible to change beneficiary from my mom to my aunt. My mom is willing/wanting to do this.
